Help Us Reach More Women
Picture this: you’re a single mother running a successful, single-income household. Some months are tighter than others, but in general, things are stable. You can comfortably provide for yourself and your child. You have a good job, a dependable car, and a solid support network.
Suddenly, you’re experiencing pain, nausea, and brain fog. When you go to the doctor, they eventually diagnose you with kidney failure. Even with your support network and a diagnosis, you are in pain and need to go to dialysis appointments multiple times per week. This causes you to lose your job, which causes you to get behind on rent. Your dependable car doesn’t pass inspection or has a bad battery, and you can’t spare the cash to fix it and pay rent, but you need to go to your appointments.
After a few months of missed rent, you and your daughter move to stay at a friend’s house until you can get back on your feet, but this isn’t a long-term arrangement. It seems like all of the walls are closing in. You’re doing the very best you can, but circumstance isn’t on your side. You are in crisis.
Then: a moment of Uplift.
You apply and hear back within 72 hours that you will receive money that will help get you back on your feet. Perhaps this money helps you with the security deposit on a new apartment. Perhaps it helps with car maintenance. Perhaps it helps pay for food and gas while you job hunt.
Regardless--this money helps. It gives you the autonomy to do what you need to do, to take care of yourself and your daughter. It allows you enough margin to take a breath of relief. It allows you to take steps forward, rather than sinking deeper into crisis.
This is the story of one of the women you have helped. It is also the story of many of the women you haved helped through your generosity to Uplift.
The vast majority of the beneficiaries we support are single mothers. Whether it’s a health crisis, an abusive partner, or loss of employment, things can quickly spiral out of control. And yet, with a financial gift, this panic and crisis does not have to be crushing. In fact, a financial gift from Uplift can be enough to help an individual thrive.
We receive applications from women like this every day. Women who are responsible, caring, and committed to the people they care for. Women who are more than their circumstances. Women who are determined to overcome their circumstances. Women who are in crisis, and need your help.
Right now, thanks to the generosity of people like you, we are funding almost 12% of grant applicants with our current funding budget. This is not insignificant--because of you, so many lives have changed. But we can’t help but think--how much more can we do? How many more women can we uplift?
There are so many women struggling in crisis. They are reaching out, and we want to reach back. Will you help us?
There are so many ways to get involved in our 2024 Day of Giving!
